This paediatric first aid course meets the requirements of the Early Years foundation stage statutory framework. The course focuses on emergency scenarios that are faced by professionals, including teachers, au pairs, playgroup and nursery personnel, in fact anyone looking after infants and young children, including parents.
It meets Ofsted requirements for registered child-minders and the requirements for nannies under the Approved Carers Scheme. It can also be used as evidence for employees working towards an NVQ in Childcare and Education.
Who is the Paediatric First Aid course for?
The course is for any person that has or works with infants and young children - or any personnel working towards an NVQ in Childcare and Education.
What will you learn?
The course covers how to deal with accidents and emergencies involving infants and young children. Course content (as a minimum): • Action planning • Treatment of an unconscious casualty • Resuscitation • Choking • Asthma and diabetic emergencies • Head injuries • Seizures and febrile convulsions • Bleeding • Burns • Sprains, strains and fractures • Poisoning, bites and stings • Allergies and Anaphylaxis • Foreign objects • Childhood conditions (e.g. meningitis; croup; sickle cell).
Course duration
12 hours contact, (can be done in 3 hourly sessions, over four week period).
Assessment and Certification
Practical assessment throughout your training & multiple choice test. Certificate and wallet card issued via our approved qualification centre, Qualsafe. Valid for three years.
